Amielle DeWan, PhD
Executive Director, Co-Founder
Aligning work towards the greatest possible impact can be a challenge but I love working with organizations and diverse teams to overcome problems and untangle complexity. Understanding needs and delivering the right tools and processes for teams to reach their goals is a real passion. I am inspired when we have helped people develop the skills and confidence to measure, evaluate, and improve on their work so they can make a powerful impact on the world.
My perspective and expertise has been shaped by over 20 years of experience in designing monitoring, evaluation, and learning systems for multiple national and international nonprofits and government agencies. I’ve worked with communities and organizations in Indonesia and China, across Europe, Africa, South and Central America, and the United States. I received my PhD from Cornell University in wildlife ecology, biostatistics, and GIS, an MS from the State University of New York in Conservation Biology and Policy, and BA in Biology from the State University of New York Binghamton.

I design meetings and workshops with that in mind – helping teams to create the best possible solutions for their work.
My diverse experiences have afforded me a multidisciplinary approach to problem-solving, rooted in the real-world challenges that face small and large non-profits. I have supported the development and management of projects across the globe including Bosnia & Herzegovina, Mexico, Indonesia, South Africa, and Europe. Ben Christ
Principal, Planning & Facilitation
My passions for facilitation and strategic planning were born from an appreciation of the “wicked” socio-ecological issues we face as a global community. As individuals, we approach these issues in ways that reflect our positions, interests, and biases. This range of perspectives can make partnership and planning particularly challenging. As a facilitator, I work alongside clients to design a process for essential conversations to occur. Whether in the field or the classroom, I am passionate about providing groups with an effective space for advancing their thinking and decision making. As a project and program manager, I ensure these processes are carried out in accordance with the resources at our disposal and at a high quality within agreed upon timeframes.
Prior to joining IbD, my experiences ranged from avian ecology and social science research at home and abroad to teaching Business English in São Paulo, Brazil. I hold a Master’s in Sustainable Development Practice with a certificate in Tropical Conservation & Development from the University of Florida and a BS in Fisheries & Wildlife from the University of Missouri.
